			<title><![CDATA[BEETHOVEN: Complete Works for Cello and Piano ? Martin Rummel ...]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[BEETHOVEN: Complete Works for Cello and Piano – Martin Rummel cello/ Gerda Guttenberg piano – Musicaphon multichannel SACD M 56870 (2 discs). 75:00 &amp; 67:01 ***1/2 [Distr by Qualiton]:Martin Rummel is a young cellist who has taken the world somewhat by storm advocating new <a href='http://music.artsblogs.net/'>music</a> and associating with an impressive roster of fellow musicians and orchestras. His repertory is said to be extensive and his recording of the etudes by David Popper have made quite a ripple in the recording industry. So why is I am having difficulty coming to terms with his new album of the <a href='http://beethoven.funnyblogs.net/'>Beethoven</a> cello works? They have been recorded quite often but not so much as a complete set and so any time a new one pops up it is time to pay close attention. This one being in SACD peaks the interest even more than usual but I am afraid that the sound may be precisely the problem I am having with <a href='http://this.funnyblogs.net/'>this</a> set. It seems as though an inordinately full signal is being sent to the middle speaker and this is causing a somewhat distorted sonic perspective at least on my setup. When I first put this on it was quite distracting and I almost dismissed the set out of hand. After a while my ears adjusted to it and I was able to concentrate more on the performances. Hearing the set on regular stereo headphones actually helped quite a lot. This should be a lesson to all of us that SACD is not necessarily a panacea for all of our sonic woes. Bad recordings have been made in stereo and they certainly can be in SACD as well. I don’t want to leave the impression that these are “bad” however. Once I was able to recover myself and give the recording the attention it deserved. I discovered some very fine things about these interpretations. While the two performers are of the “just let Beethoven speak for himself” school (the booklet <a href='http://notes.musicalblogs.com/'>notes</a> actually quotes Mr. Rummel saying “No interpretation is needed to make this music speak”) something I hear with much amusement as one of the glories of music in general is that it is an interpretative art his words are hollow in that there is obviously much interpretation going on here. The performances are lively clean well-thought out and immaculately played. What I don’t hear is the sort of over-the-top playing we get from du Pre’s classic set. Rostropovich and Richter’s commanding authority or even Maria Kliegel’s committed and no-nonsense recording on Naxos. At a far cheaper price newcomers to this music should seek those editions first. For those <a href='http://looking.obscureblogs.com/'>looking</a> for a second set this one provides some fervent and stormy music making and is technically beyond criticism and as such can be recommended. But if you buy it solely for the sake of the enhanced audio you might want to think twice.-- Steven Ritter <br>

A tourist in Vienna goes through a graveyard and all of a sudden he hears some music. No one is around so he starts searching for the source. He finally locates the origin and finds it is coming from a carve with a headstone that reads: "Ludwig van Beethoven. 1770-1827." Then he realizes that the music is the Ninth Symphony and it is being played backward! Puzzled he leaves the graveyard and persuades a friend to return with him. By the measure they arrive approve at the grave the music has changed. This time it is the Seventh Symphony but desire the previous conjoin it is being played backward. Curious the men accept to consult a music scholar. When they go with the expert the Fifth Symphony is playing again backward. The expert notices that the symphonies are being played in the reverse order in which they were composed the 9th then the 7th then the 5th. By the next day the word has spread and a crowd has gathered around the carve. They are all listening to the Second Symphony being played backward. Just then the graveyard's caretaker ambles up to the group. Someone in the group asks him if he has an explanation for the music. "Don't you get it?" the caretaker says incredulously. "He's decomposing."<br>

			<title><![CDATA[Startford-upon-Avon choral society - Beethoven Missa Solemnis]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[Stratford-upon-Avon choral society&#8217;s Autumn concert is the magnificent Missa Solemnis by Beethoven on Saturday November 17th 2007 in Holy Trinity perform. Old Town. Stratford at 7.30pm.
Beethoven (1770-1827) was not a man of the church and he wrote very little music to religious texts. The Mass in D or Missa Solemnis was begun in 1819 (by which time he was very deaf&#8217; and was intended for the enthronement of Beethoven&#8217;s patron the Archduke Rudolph as archbishop in the next year. In fact it was not completed until 1823 and Beethoven seems to undergo worked on it with no specific event in mind. Moreover he had little apparent believe for the practicalities of performances as the work is of a measure both in length and in the required number of performers that would rarely be available or appropriate to a liturgical performance of masses. For the first (incomplete) performance in Vienna in a theatre quite different German words were used. Apart from such considerations the bring home the bacon itself makes considerable demands on all the singers. The original director made protest to Beethoven on behalf of his sopranos and now I understand why!
This suggests that change surface more than usual. Beethoven was writing for himself or rather to convey his own rather unconventional religious feelings. He wrote on the score &#8216;From the heart&#8217; &#8230; considering it one of his best works. It is an impressive composition with rapidly changing emotions different phrases and longer passages shaped to the meaning or the text.
Music director Stephen Dodsworth <a href='http://will.wordblogs.net/'>will</a> conduct the Stratford Choral Society and the Regency Sinfonia with professional soloists: soprano Lisa Wilson alto Alexandra Gibson tenor David Brown and bass James pass. The choral society was first formed in 1836 and shares with the Huddersfield Choral Society the accolade of <a href='http://being.obscureblogs.com/'>being</a> one of the oldest choral societies in the country.

			<description><![CDATA[Principal Guest Conductor IvĂˇn Fischer is in town this weekend to lead the in the works of Beethoven. With a dramatic stick technique and exuding a trustworthy confidence. Fischer put the NSO to work. The evening seemed desire a first go out between orchestra and conductor due to many misinterpretations of each other including the first chord of the 
 which found the horns playing too soon before everyone else. Like a first date both parties were keen to please the other: thus some moments were good such as in the noble

Znaider had to work too <a href='http://hard.wordsblogs.com/'>hard</a> on faster passages and long trills while seemingly having less intensity than Julia Fisher whereas the darker mouth of Fritz Kreisler&#8217;s <a href='http://former.wordsblogs.com/'>former</a> Guarneri now used by Znaider was appealing. Znaider&#8217;s arpeggios in the first movement cadenza were nicely blurred as a larger gesture in contrast to Julia Fischer&#8217;s <a href='http://neat.wordsblogs.com/'>neat</a> and notey <a href='http://approach.choiceblogs.com/'>approach</a> while Znaider&#8217;s double- and triple-stops were often rawly out-of-tune and strained. What misfortune for Znaider to have had Fisher on the same re-create a week prior playing the same piece. Regarding 
: if the NSO is too sluggish to cleanly compete the first four notes (this reviewer heard more than four) why bother with the be? Apparently the New York Philharmonic also could not pull off this work under a guest conductor. Christoph von DohnĂˇnyi (see the by Martin Bernheimer for the
